The conversion of the historic Montgomery Ward department store in downtown Greensboro, built in 1936, into The Pearl marks a remarkable revitalization of the area. Originally transformed into the Triad Stage in 2001, the building gained cultural significance, hosting over 100 productions and selling over 500,000 tickets over two decades. During this time, a partnership with Eastern Music Festival brought in numbers. Concerts from artists like Trombone Shorty, The Tony Rice Unit and everyone in-between, proving acoustics and the venue experience are well-suited for music performances. While the closure of the theater in 2023 could have signaled the end of an era, it instead heralded a new beginning for The Pearl.
